On a grey fall day with a chill in the wind,
I toiled, planting bulbs deep in the earth,
Though through the dark days of winter
there will be no hint of their worth.
Through cold and sleet and storm
they freeze in their grave, their fate,
Awaiting the emergence of spring,
never despairing in the long wait.
So it is with our lives,
when we experience a winter of soul.
We must never despair and lose hope,
as we wait once again to feel whole.
For just as the bulbs will awaken
as the spring whispers winter is done,
So will the earth’s chill in our hearts
be warmed by God’s only Son.
For He died and was laid in a tomb,
cold and lifeless one dark day,
But springtime came to that tomb.
He was not there, doomed to stay.
For like the daffodils and tulips
I can count on every spring,
I know that tomb was empty.
Of His praises I have reason to sing.
So during falls and winters
while we wait and strive to be strong,
We must remember planted down deep in our hearts
We have the truth of Easter’s song.
