Following Not Leading God

By Carol Ann Caster

“And this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the Truth; but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.” 1 John 1:5-7

To fully comprehend this Word of Truth, we must go back to the beginning. In Genesis 1:1 it is written: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. And the earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep; and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness.” The Hebrew word for light is “owr”. It signifies life in contrast to death and brings illumination and enlightenment, which bear the fruits of happiness and cheerfulness. It is the breeding ground from which true joy springs forth. The Hebrew word for darkness is “choshek” meaning: misery, falsehood, ignorance, blindness, hiddenness, and judgment. Sin finds its habitat here and breeds every evil thought and action.

Now when God saw that the light was good, He separated the light from the darkness. The Hebrew word for darkness is “Badal” which means to separate, disjoin, to distinguish diverse things, to discern, make a difference, and to select out of a group. To be holy (qadash) is to be set apart or consecrated. This all falls into place as we read 2 Cor. 6:14-18: “Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness? Or what harmony has Christ with Belial, or what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the Living God; just as God said, ‘I will dwell in them and walk among them; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.’ Therefore, come out from their midst and be SEPARATE, says the Lord. And do not touch what is unclean; and I will welcome you. And I will be a Father to you and you shall be sons and daughters to Me,” says the Lord Almighty.

The Living Word is speaking to us. His children are holy and precious in His sight, blood-bought and washed clean in the Living Water of His Word. He calls to His own to come out from the world and mindset of those who have no dawn. His Spirit draws us to come out from practicing their futile ways, come out from running to the vain things that provide no real help in time of need.

We are encouraged in Jn. 8:12 that “he who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the Light of Life.” His Word is so awesome, so magnificent! He comes to help us and to equip us to walk in the victory that He has already won. The Holy Spirit comes to strengthen us and lead us back in the Way if ever we should go astray. Through Him we are enabled to see and understand that we are true reflections of the One Who is the Pure Light. We are called to bring illumination and enlightenment to a world that has been blinded by the prince of darkness.

Keep looking to Him in all things. His Word has promised that He Himself, the God of Peace, shall sanctify us entirely and that our spirit and soul and body shall be preserved complete without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus. Because faithful is He who calls us and He also shall bring it to pass (1 Thess. 5:23-24).

It is all about Him. It always has been, it always will be. Set your mind on His Truth and rest in the promise of His faithfulness. If the darkness has pressed in on you, fear not. The Light that is in you is greater than the darkness that is in the world. Just believe God and shine and watch the darkness flee away. In the presence of that Light, the joy and peace you thought had forever eluded you will manifest as when the dawn breaks forth and commands the night to retreat into its hiding place. For in His presence is fullness of Joy, Life and Blessing!

Believe it, receive it and share it. Amen!
