A Sleepless Night Can Bear Fruit

By Carol Blansett

One night out of a thousand, it seems a sleepless one rolls around. This particular night recently, I found myself saying the Twenty-Third Psalm. I thought I remembered it all, but in checking later, I had left out a couple of verses and resolved to learn them in sequence with the rest of the chapter.

A long, long time ago, I heard someone say they were asked to quote the Lord’s Prayer and stop when they couldn’t understand it. The farthest they got was ~ can you guess? It was, “Our Father.” It is nearly incomprehensible that He, the Lord God, would even want to be our Father!!! Ponder that thought.

In this frame of mind, I said, “The LORD is. . .” He is!!! He is our Shepherd.

He makes me to lie down in green pastures - first. He makes me to rest first! He leads me beside the still waters. Wow! Those are both restful places! He restores my soul! Yeaaaaa! Ponder that idea!

A few nights later, I was again lying sleepless. It wasn’t 999 nights later, even! I began with the same Psalm, but in a different vein that I determined to share with others. “Oh, Lord, you are my Shepherd. Thank You that You make me to lie down in green pastures. Thank you for leading me beside still waters. Thank You for restoring my soul!”

I will leave you to finish the concept on your own with your memory or with your Bible. Invite Him to commune with you as you RECEIVE from Him these incredible blessings in a new and refreshing way . . . as you ponder (don’t you just love that word?). May it continue to minister to your soul and wash the Living Water over you in a most refreshing manner!

Peace, Love and Joy to you as you seek His face, His Love and goodness to you.

Oh, yes! On the “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life” part: Who said once that Goodness and Mercy are like sheepdogs? (for a new way to remember them ambling along with you in constant companionship).

Have you ever studied sheep? Or heard a sermon about them? Food for thought, but that’s yet another study!

Enjoy Psalm 23! Chew on it. Let it melt like M&Ms in your mouth, only even better! Implement the concept into other topics!

God bless each of you.
